Comeback telecommunications company NTEL, has launched a few data plans which is allegedly going to be unlimited (NTEL says) .
NTEL had previously launched its telecommunications services in Lagos and Abuja though at present is only fully active in Abuja.
NTEL telecommunications have however stated that they are putting plans in place to avail their services to other states in the country most notably Lagos, the commerce capital of the country.
NTEL has launched a few new internet data bundle plans :

- Smartphone Data Weekly with a validity period of 7 days @N3000
- Smartphone Data Monthly with a validity period of 30 days @N10000
- A 3day plan is also available @N1200

As stated by NTEL, these data plans are unlimited.l, this is however tricky considering NTEL had previously stated in their policy that internet data would be throttled after reaching a threshold of 3MB
daily and it is unclear if the previously stated policy would apply to the newly launched internet data bundle plans.
Fingers crossed on that as more details will be revealed.
The company (NTEL) has also unveiled new outlets where SIMs can be purchased and redeemed (Abuja residents).
These outlets are listed below :

> Zeph Associates Limited, Suite 003, Plot 139, 4th Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja

> Correspondence Limited, Suite AA6, Kirmu Plaza, Plot 710, I.T. Igbani street, Jabi, Abuja

> Gaddison Phone Com. Limited, No. 40,
Ladoke Akintola Crescent, opposite Garki II market, Abuja

> Alennsar Infinity Com Nigeria Limited, Plot 1221, opposite Banex Plaza, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

NTEL are obviously still a work in progress as they are currently only capable of dealing only in Abuja, hopefully they spread their wings and bring more competition into the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.
Fingers crossed.

Nigeria's comeback telecommunications company, NTEL has launched their swift 4G/LTE internet router in both the commerce capital of the country: Lagos state as well as the Federal capital: Abuja.

According to reports, The ZTE supports upto Sixty-four (64) Wi-Fi connections as well as Four (4) ports for LAN (local area network)

Quoting NTEL's CEO Kamar Abass at the official launch:

“This is the ideal router for households as well as small and medium scale businesses and other organisations who require superfast internet service.
“Our routers which are Cat 6 with 4 x 2 MiMo will not only guarantee superfast internet access but can serve up to 64 multiple users at the same time.
“For data hungry Nigerians looking for superfast internet speeds up to 230mbps over a 4G/LTE connection, this is the device for them.”

The router works on 2.4 GHz to achieve better wall-penetrating capabilities and 5 GHz for faster throughput and lower interference.
It also supports gigabit wired connections, making it possible to copy files over a Local area network at a speed higher than 80 MB/s.

The ZTE MF286 while having a size similarity a traditional wireless router however stands out with its ability to:

> Deliver speeds of up to 230 Mbps using the 4×2 MIMO technology
> Operate on dual SSIDs 2.4 and 5GHz for better wall-penetration capabilities and lower interference respectively
> Function in active mode for 6 to 8 hours using its 3,000mAh battery
> Support file sharing among users on the same wi-fi network via its USB port.

NTEL is also giving customers a chance to experience the sweet swiftness of their internet services at 3 NTEL outlets in both Las gidi and Abuja.
If you want to experience the speed NTEL internet is offering, head over to either of these designated NTEL outlets:

> 134, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja

NTEL are progressing with their plan to provide national 4G LTE services in Nigeria, slowly but surely, but I feel they should work faster because winter (MTN 4G) is coming!!  😁 😁

Finally! Ntel has at long last opened up an outlet/pickup station in Nigeria's commerce capital, Lagos.
Ntel has been function in the federal capital city (FCT) Abuja and they have been expected to
have spread their services to other parts of the nation by now but alas they are operating at snail's pace.

If you are In Las gidi (Lagos) and have earlier reserved a Ntel 4g sim, you can now pick it up.
The Ntel pickup outlet is located at ;

Alfred Rewane, Kingsway Road (by Rumens)
Opposite Ikoyi Registry,
Ikoyi, Lagos.

Funnily, this is the sole Ntel official pickup outlet in Lagos which is quite a travesty considering the population of the state.
In my opinion, I think Ntel came into the telecommunications industry unprepared.
Their only selling point for now is their 4g service offer and should MTN launch their own 4g service before Ntel goes round, interest in doing business with them would wane.
I strongly suggest Ntel sits up and deliver.

Interested users of the revamped NTEL network can now reserve numbers on the NTEL website.
Simple and unique numbers are unavailable though (according to the website), probably because other users have taken them.
However, you could still be fortunate to get your desired number, through trials.
You could also decide to save the stress of repeated trials to get preferred numbers by making use of the "Generate a random number" option which is also made available.
To reserve your own NTEL 0804 number which is set to be officially launched first in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, visit NTEL's reservation page .
NB : All reservations made will be online on the 12th of March 2016 to the 31st of May 2016.
Also note that a user can only make number reservations for a maximum of just 5 different numbers.

The age of 4G LTE network services in NIgeria is here!
With comeback telecom company Ntel bringing their 4G Lte network and MTN/Visafone's 4G LTE service also imminent.
Smile used to be the only company offering 4G LTE services.
...And now there are three.

Despite being back for a few months now,
Ntel and its services still remain a work in progress.
I hope they would not fall of again in a back-to-back manner.
Ntel offers 4G LTE in only 2 states at present and their services on offer in both states are far from optimal.
Both states with Ntel 4G LTE coverage are:
  • Lagos
  • Abuja

MTN's purported 4G LTE service is yet to be officially rolled out, they bought out Visafone in a bid to provide 4G LTE services to their users.
Generally MTN are known for having a pretty good network coverage.
MTN would be offering their 4G services in seven states in the country (Nigeria).
The states are listed below:
  • Lagos
  • Port Harcourt
  • Ibadan
  • Abuja
  • Abeokuta
  • Sagamu
  • Kaduna

Smile has been around for a while, their services are used in large industries as they have proven themselves over time to be quite reliable.
Smile offers 4G services in eight states in the country (Nigeria).
These states are listed below:
  • Lagos
  • Port Harcourt
  • Ibadan
  • Abuja
  • Benin City
  • Kaduna
  • Onitsha
  • Asaba

One of the best telecommunication development of 2016 was the introduction of 4G LTE services by telcos in the country (NGR).

4G services had been available via internet service providers such as Spectranet (checkout Spectranet Unlimited Gold data bundle plan: 100GB+ monthly), Smile etc but their services were not SIM based hence the major fanfare when Ntel first introduced the Ntel 4G LTE services.

Image result for 4g lte

At that point, Ntel were set to enjoy a market monopoly of the 4G LTE services but MTN were having none of it!

Globacom were next to sneakishly launch the Glo 4G LTE services and it comes offering the best 4G data bundle plans of them all

Etisalat followed suit by launching the Etisalat 4G services and there was even room for newbies InterC to launch their own 4G services too!!!

4G LTE (fourth generation long term evolution) offers the type of speed Usian Bolt would be proud of when it comes to internet surfing and it offers a considerable improvement in speed when compared to 3G services.

However, while 4G LTE has cool advantages it is not without its disadvantages

  • Offers up to 10X faster internet speed compared to 3G
  • It offers higher bandwith
  • It offers beastly high voice quality
  • Offers swift downloads over WiFi
  • Offers awesome streaming quality (audio and video)
  • Stable internet connection
  • No throttling

  • 4G LTE data bundles are more expensive than 3G bundles
  • Some smartphone devices does not offer support for 4G LTE services
  • 4G LTE consumes a lot of battery juice
  • It consumes data excessively in comparison to 3G network
  • Heating is an issue when using 4G LTE services excessively on smartphones as it consumes battery juice and makes the battery heat up and in extension the smartphone heats up too
  • Availability of different 4G bands makes the choice of 4G enabled smartphones tricky as the different service providers operates via different 4G bands

These are the pros and cons of 4G LTE services, the 4G experience is definite very cool but I would advice you stick to 3G services if you are a mild internet user but if your downloading skills are on fleek, then by all means 4G LTE is the way to go!!!

The 4G LTE movement is definetely the ish right now! With almost all the telcos in the country (NGR) offering support for 4G LTE services (barring Airtel NG), it is almost a sin not to have a 4G enabled smartphone device.
Image result for 4g lte image
However, the uncool news is the fact that these telecom services offers their 4G LTE services on different bands which might or might not be supported by
the 4G enabled smartphone device you use.
I am posting this to show the different bands supported by these telecom services (MTN, Glo< Etisalat, Ntel) to help dear Nerddicts make better decisions on which service they should opt for or in deciding a 4G enabled smartphone to purchase.

Carrier4G LTE BandsFrequencies
MTN7, 202600MHz, 800MHz
Ntel3, 81800MHz, 900MHz

The above details which band is supported by each of these telecom services, making it easier to decide which of the telecom 4G LTE services suits you and your smartphone.

However, if you have or plan on getting the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, you need not worry about bands as part of the awesomeness of the device includes global support for ALL 4G LTE bands!!!

It is  no longer news that 4G LTE services is the trending telecom ish going on in the country (NGR), with almost all telecom companies in the country joining the 4G LTE gang.
Quite recently, SMILE launched a 4G SIM (0702smile) for their customers (in a bid to compete with other 4G service rendering telcos).
Image result for 4g images

With the latest emergence of the 4G LTE Services, it is imperative that smartphone users get a 4G supported device (if they do not already have one).

It is also important smartphone users know the 4G bands their Android device supports before choosing to switch to a 4G network.

The emergence of 4G LTE services has necessitated the checking of "4g band" of a smartphone before purchasing as each telcos ISPs have different bands that they support or do not support e.g
MTN 4G LTE works fine on Apple iPhone 6 but same cannot be said of  NTEL 4G LTE.
Similarly, NTEL 4G LTE works perfectly on Tecno Camon C9 but the same cannot be said for Glo 4G LTE.
These examples simply buttresses the fact that knowing a device's 4G band is very important before switching to any of the 4G supported telcos. This brings us to the main reason for writing this piece.

To identify the 4G bands your android smartphone supports, simply follow the procedure below.
  • Download and install MTK engineering Tool
  • Upon launching the app, tap on MTK settings > BandMode > Select SIM.
  • There, you’d see all the available GSM bands, UMTS bands as well as the LTE (4G) bands.
By default, you’d see some ticked bands outlined in White colors while others are in grey as shown in the image below:
4G bands an android phone supports
The ticked bands highlighted in white are those your android smartphone supports. If you attempt to use any of the telcos 4G SIMs that do not support any of the highlighted bands, then you will not be able to enjoy that particular telecom's 4G LTE services on your 4G enabled android smartphone.
Hope you have found this piece helpful, remember to share it using the share buttons!

Spectranet has introduced a new internet data bundle that is quite awesome i.e  Spectranet Unlimited Gold Plan.

This is a quite welcome development coming not so long after the NCC data price hike fiasco,

Spectranet's move is similar to Smile's (another 4G internet service provider) but unlike Smile, it does not data throttle.

Another 4G internet service provider that offers unlimited internet data plans is Ntel, however they do not have a nationwide reach yet which is quite similar to Spectranet's offering (i.e the Gold plan is only available in Lagos and this period).

Spectranet's unlimited data plan are however quite on the high side (in my opinion), costing a wallet punching N18,000 monthly! (as against Smile and Ntel's N10,000 per month billing).

When you subscribe for Spectranet Unlimited Gold plan, you get to enjoy:

  • 24/7 full speed internet access on the service network
  • A fair usage policy of 100GB within the validity period (after which surfing speed will be reduced to FUP of 512 Kpbs)
  • A validity period of 30 days

Apart from the pricing, I think the Spectranet Gold plan is cool, I dom't know about you but 100GB in a month is sufficient for me (admittedly I do not download much).

If you feel this plan suits you (your business and your wallet), I'd say go for it!

The 4G LTE race is heating up in the country (NGR)!!!

When Ntel launched their 4G services, it was only a matter of time before rivals felt threatened and roll out 4G LTE services of their own and yes! to the delight of telecom users, most telecom services DID roll out their 4G services.

Image result for smile 4g lte image

And finally, SMILE has decided to join the mix of sim enabled 4G LTE gang!
Smile is the first telecommunications service provider in West Africa to deploy the 4G LTE network technology in way back in 2013.

SMILE (possibly threatened by the rise of 4G LTE services) has launched their 0702smile 4GLTE sim pack which is priced at N1,000.

The all-encompassing super value starter pack (a first of its kind in the country), offers consumers 30 days unlimited access to social network sites, 30 days access to unlimited browsing, 30 minutes Short Message Service [SMS] and 30 minutes calls to any network.

  • The Smile 4G LTE SIM can be used on 4G enabled smartphones and can make local as well as international voice calls, for Internet surfing and downloading, video/audio streaming and sending SMS
  • Voice calls and SMS from a data package will be charged at 8k/sec from home and abroad on the Smile voice only plan, free calls from abroad on the SmileVoice app which is available on the IOS and Google playstore.
  • Smile 0702 4G sim will work on most 4G phones that supports band 20 (800Mhz)

Go get your SMILE SIM now!!! and like I previously mentioned, if you do not have a 4G enables smartphone, now is the time to get one!

The 3G broadband is getting lonely fast.

In what might be the biggest development in the telecommunication sphere in the country (Nigeria), rumor has it that there is about to be a union between two telecommunication giants.

Globacom is said to be planning a takeover bid of Etisalat Ng!

This is coming on the back of Etisalat having financial issues with some Nigerian bank i.e Zenith, Access and GTBank, resulting in an attempted takeover. NCC however swooped in like a knight in shining armour to save the day (for the time being).

Etisalat Ng subsequently offered a 5% equity stake to the banks in lieu of the financial loan, but it was rejected. Now, rumors is having it that rivals, Globacom are set to take advantage of Etisalat woes and swoop in for a hostile takeover.

Why Globacom Telecommunications Are Interested In Taking Over Etisalat Ng
